Egadz is Dead is to be the final album under that moniker for producer/beat maker Erik Nava. Although fans of Egadz! will no doubt be sad to learn this fact be assured that Erik will continue to make dope beats under the new moniker NAVA. Before that transition is complete Egadz! gives us one more electro-hip-hop-a-delic ride.
“After establishing an amazing worldwide following with his first two albums Monotony and Shining Hours, Egadz! continues to prove why he is one of the most flexible and eclectic artists in the Electronic genre. His latest album, Egadz Is Dead features his signature style of melodic – half acoustic – psychedelic electronica.” -the POP! stereo
The blog love for Egadz is Dead is already abundant and many are calling it his best record to date. Replete with the type of glitched out MPC beats Egadz! fans have come to love Egadz is Dead is a powerful final chapter in the story of Egadz! From the opening of the first track to the very end of the record Egadz! keeps the beats bumping. While earlier albums would diverge at times into more ambient soundscapes Egadz is Dead keeps the beat going throughout. Comparisons have been drawn to many great DJ/producers from DJ Shadow to Aphex Twin, but the truth is Egadz! has created his own style of instrumental electro-hip-hop. One thing these comparisons do point to is that key distinction between programming machines and making music. Anyone with a computer these days can program beats, but few can elevate that practice to a true art form the way Egadz! does.
While some will mourn the loss of Egadz! unique style and artistry, many eagerly await his rebirth as NAVA. Judging from the first track posted on the new NAVA Myspace page the same talent, artistry and passion will no doubt be poured into this new project. Rest In Peace Egadz!
