Jamaica’s Supreme Court ruled last week that Sonia Pottinger is indeed the rightful owner of the famed Treasure Isle Records catalog. Sonia got her start in music back in 1965 when she opened Tip Top Records Shop and became a renowned supporter of the local Jamaican music scene. She started the labels SEP (Sonia E. Pottinger), Gayfeet, High Note, Glory Records and purchased the Treasure Isle catalog in 1975 from Arthur Stanley “Duke” Reid.
From the Jamaican Observer- “Almost on the eve of her victory in the Supreme Court, this ‘musical heroine’ struck a high note when she landed an online distribution deal with the US-based Independent Online Distribution Alliance (IODA). The deal will see her musical treasures being distributed worldwide distribution through IODA’s network of digital retail outlets, mobile retailers and subscription services.
This will pave the way for more glory to Sonia E Pottinger as under the three-tier agreement, IODA will distribute the songs through Notable Music which represents her own High Note and Treasure Isle Records.”
The Treasure Isle catalog is now available for purchase at well over 30 digital retail outlets across the globe; from iTunes, eMusic and Amazon MP3 to smaller niche services.
