Brooklyn-based rapper Beans has lead quite an auspicious career over the last two decades. His old group, the legendary experimental and innovative Anti-Pop Consortium, is counted amongst Rap’s greatest units. His solo career has also proved fruitful, as Beans has made a name for himself outside of Anti-Pop’s success. In 2009 the group reunited and released a highly anticipated fifth album entitled Fluorescent Black, which was met with universal acclaim. Beans has put out four solo records that proved his unique style was invaluable to the hip-hop community. His last record, Thorns, was bittersweet, but an exercise is raw, exhausting emotion that one rarely hears anymore. Now he returns after the Anti-Pop reunion to present his new, fourth solo effort, End It All. The new record is a lush, darkly tinted soundscape that featured top-notch production from some of today’s most inspired names including Four Tet, Clark, TOBACCO, Son Lux, In Flagranti, Sam Fog (Interpol), and more. Needless to say, End It All is more than appropriate as Beans’s anticon debut; he fits in seamlessly with the label’s already spectacular roster

Goldenboy is the musical project of Shon Sullivan, a talented individual with a rich musical background. Sullivan was drafted into Elliott Smith’s touring band after Smith heard of his multi-instrumental prowess; it was during his time with Smith that Shon was given the nickname “Goldenboy” which would stick as his moniker for two successful and acclaimed albums. Now, after a timely break to refocus his energy and musical vision, Shon’s Goldenboy returns with a fantastic new record entitled Sleepwalker, out Eenie Meenie Records.

Shon grew up in a suburb a few miles southeast of Los Angeles, a place called Diamond Bar, which is most notable for its being the current home of Snoop Dogg. (Everybody’s gotta live somewhere.) It was in this traditional setting of Americana that he first began his musical lessons, watching his mom play folk tunes on a nylon-string classical guitar around the house. At college he majored in music and developed considerable chops on keyboards, guitar, drums, and cello. He then first took to touring and recording with the band Spain in 2001. His real break came when Elliott Smith drafted Sullivan into his band, where he would remain as a drummer for four years contributing to recordings and liver performances. On tour with Smith, Shon would be up late with Elliott, jamming on a little Casio keyboard, exploring unusual chords and melodies. Perhaps it was here that the inventive piano playing on the initial Goldenboy recording Blue Swan Orchestra (2003) was first born. The album bears clear traces of Smith’s influence and musical proficiency. It also included a guest vocal by Smith himself on the track “Summertime,” which made it to the Six Feet Under soundtrack. The album’s critical acclaim would spark a touring frenzy where Goldenboy would support Bright Eyes, Neil Finn, The Church, Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, Grandaddy and many more.

Exray’s were abducted from a claustrophobic urban maze when their music was tapped for the soundtrack to David Fincher’s blockbuster, The Social Network. Since that time, the San Francisco duo has released a debut cassette and completed their first LP,a self-titled electronic art-pop extravaganza. The album featured many lo-fi narratives that invoke personal experiences, addictive songcraft, cinematic arrangements, gene-spliced pop, and grimy beats have been spawning catchy melodic viruses. Guest performances by Nate Query (Decemberists), Tim Cohen (The Fresh & Onlys) and Warren Huegel (Citay, Jonas Reinhardt) have compounded these effects. They’ve also released their first proper video, a collaboration with Pixar’s Jeanne Applegate, which was met with much enthusiasm online. (more…)

With one of the most instantly recognizable songwriting styles in recent memory, Jack Johnson has become a household name in radio-friendly, positive mid-rock. With his unique vocal stylings, relaxed surfer influence, and positive message, Johnson has managed to achieve commercial success rarely heard of in contemporary times for a singer-songwriter. Since he released his debut album, Brushfire Fairytales, in 2001 on Everloving Records, Johnson has sold over 8 million albums worldwide, founded his own label (Brushfire Records), organized an annual festival in Hawaii called the Kōkua Festival, and recorded the soundtrack for the successful 2006 film Curious George.  That’s all on top of the four more full albums along with a number of EP’s he released, which all found critical and commercial success. His name is now synonymous with pop-rock radio for the first decade of the 21st century.

Now, Everloving Records along with IODA is proud to announce that Jack’s debut album has been remastered from the original analog tapes and is being re-released in a special bonus edition! The album that started it all, Brushfire Fairytales, returns to Everloving Records this January with a remastered version (by the famed Bernie Grundman). Back in 2001, Everloving was still called Enjoy and Brushfire Fairytales was their 1st release. Ten years later the album returns to Everloving’s conservatorship so they decided to give it the royal treatment by pulling the original 1/2″ analog masters from the vault and re-introducing the album to old and new fans alike, now with two vintage live tracks. The album was produced by Everloving co-founder JP Plunier and became the basis for Everloving Records after it was rejected by every major label.  It was after a year of dedicated work and 100,000 units sold that all those same labels returned with offers to sign Jack.
