For a first in his career, Guilty Simpson drops unreleased heat over left-wing experimental beats. The A-side is a crazy dance-filled production while Side B drops fire with another heart stopper. For the first time Guilty Simpson has the production of experimental producers behind him and the results are mighty delightful to hear.

Featured Release: Sean Hayes Outtakes & Alternatives

Sean Hayes’ worn soulful music defies easy categorization. Described as loose, dusty and alive, his songs radiate a free-spirited charm that rarely seems attached to any particular era. The result is a sound infused with eclectic instrumentation and an unpolished warmth. His songs have been re-mixed by DJs and covered by folk artists alike. His unique soulful voice infects audiences with charm, equal parts affirming and heartbreaking.

Outtakes & Alternatives is a collection of songs recorded from 2005 to 2011. Some songs are outtakes from album sessions that didn’t make the cut for that album. The last three tracks are alternate versions of songs that have been released on previous albums.

Tiago Iorc is a Brazilian musician, singer-songwriter and recording artist. His debut album Let Yourself In was released in 2008 and the track “Nothing But a Song” reached a nation-wide audience as it was featured on a popular Brazilian soap opera. The song peaked at number 11 on Billboard Japan’s Hot 100 Chart. The album has also been released in Japan by JVC Records, in South Korea by Kang & Music and in the Philippines by Universal Records.

Tiago’s second release Umbilical, represents a different side of him. He had the freedom to experiment artistically without necessarily having to fit to any pre-established expectations and gradually evolve as an artist. He spent little over five months in his apartment gathering thoughts and musical ideas until teaming up with New York-based Andy Chase for the production of Umbilical.

Celebrating A Legend: The Wayman Tisdale Story The Wayman Tisdale Story is a feature length documentary celebrating the life and legacy of Wayman Tisdale, a three-time All-American, Gold Medal Olympian, former NBA star and world renowned Jazz musician who lost his two-year battle with bone cancer in May of 2009. Told through his own words, The Wayman Tisdale Story journeys through Tisdale’s life from this childhood as a preacher’s son to his battle with cancer. A story of human courage in the face of adversity, the documentary airs on ESPN and NBA TV this fall. Rendezvous Music complements this telling of Wayman’s story with a soundtrack featuring 13 tracks including the previously unreleased track, “Slam Dunk,” produced by Jeff Lorber; and the Toby Keith track, “Cryin’ For Me,” which was written and performed as a tribute to Wayman.

This morning brought the sad news of the passing of a jazz legend, the great drummer Paul Motian. From Bill Evans to Keith Jarrett, Charlie Haden to Bill Frisell, Paul played with the best of the best for over 50 years. At 80 years old Paul left an amazing legacy of music and influence.

“Emerging first as a member of pianist Bill Evans’ groundbreaking trio in the mid-1950s, Motian went on to become an innovator in his own right, creating a style of drumming that was as much about implication and suggestion as it was overt pulse and groove. Texture and color were paramount from a drummer who, in addition to recording in groups like pianist Keith Jarrett’s vastly influential American Quartet of the 1970s, with bassist Charlie Haden and saxophonist Dewey Redman, went on to create his own vast discography.” -All About Jazz

Notable producer, Chris Brann, responsible for the ground breaking king-of-their-time productions of Wamdue Project, Wamdue Kids, and Ananda Project, comes to the electronic front line once again with another album by his brain stepchild, P’Taah. This is the fourth P’Taah album with the last one being released in 2004. It gained wide acceptance in many different crossover Jazz scenes, with his albums maintaining the consistency to sell through over long periods of time. This is not your typical mainstream, trendy, flash in the pan project, but one that’s set alongside musical genre bending, innovation and musical creativity, never being stamped with an expiration date.
