Texas Celebrates Blue Corn Music’s Tenth Anniversary

Friday, June 24th, 2011

50494 100856341980 5964847 n Texas Celebrates Blue Corn Musics Tenth AnniversaryWe love Blue Corn Music, but we never thought we’d get to celebrate a holiday in their honor. Two weeks ago, Texas Governor Rick Perry recently signed a proclamation officially recognizing the label’s tenth anniversary, which was Wednesday, June 21st. To celebrate ten years of releasing some of the decade’s best roots, blues and americana music as well as a new distribution partnership with Spindle Music/Red Distribution, Blue Corn is hosting a party at Antone’s in Austin, Texas, where label legends Hadden Sayers and Ruthie Foster will perform alongside other special guests. This week also marks the release of Ruthie Foster’s first live concert DVD with an accompanying album Live at Antone’s and Hadden Sayer’s new album Hard Dollar.

Blue Corn has released over twenty albums since its inception, many of which have received a number of awards. The label’s first release, Twilight by Caroline Herring, was voted one of the Top 5 Albums by the AMP Awards. Herring went on to receive a Best New Artist award from both the American-Statesman and the Austin Music Awards. The Truth According To Ruthie Foster also received a Grammy nomination in 2009, and she has since received two Blues Music Awards as well as the 2010 Living Blues Award Critic’s Poll for Female Blues Artist of the Year. According to Blue Corn’s founder, Denby Auble, “We have been fortunate to have worked with so many incredibly talented artists over the last ten years. We all know how much the Business environment has changed over this period, but the music will always transcend.”

Grab some Blue Corn promotracks and check out Rick Perry’s official proclamation after the jump!
