Critical acclaim for the debut from Burkina Electric is rolling in!  Today “Lidgi” off of the debut entitled, Paspanga, was featured as KCRWs “Today’s Top Tune” and earlier this week, the New York Times made their own assessment of the album.

Burkina Electric’s full-length debut is an irresistible brew of traditional West African music and electronica. They are the first electronica band from Burkina Faso, in the deep interior of West Africa, though they are also an international band, with members living in New York, and Germany, as well as in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso’s capital. Today’s Top Tune, from the album Paspanga is a song about money and all of its most negative aspects. It’s called “Ligdi.”

The West African interior meets the jet stream, and the digital slipstream, on “Paspanga,” the full-length debut by Burkina Electric. A sleek, kinetic album, it documents a continuing project spanning several continents, with members based in Burkina Faso, Germany and New York. Whatever awkward dislocations that might suggest, they’re nowhere to be found in the music, which imagines a global dance floor.
