Featured Artist- The Tones

artist 3111530 Featured Artist The TonesThe Tones are progressive masters in the creation of soulful, honest, and truly groundbreaking hip hop in its most appealing form. Being compared to the likes of Common, Kanye West, Blackstar, Tribe Called Quest, Slum Village, and Little Brother, many might wonder how such a sound can be derived from the California Bay Area. Yet, despite geographical music trends, The Tones continue to make music that spans borders, and appeals to all without appealing to the lowest common denominator. Common has been quoted as saying The Tones are “some real soulful brothers.”

It’s a departure from Hip Hop that is all to often too serious. Maybe what we all need to do is dance again.

An Introduction to IODA Podcasts- The Sound Culture

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

the sound culture logo An Introduction to IODA Podcasts The Sound CultureOver two years ago, IODA began producing The Sound Culture. The focus has always been very simple: good music with minimal interruption. This formula has proved very successful and the podcast has gained a loyal following with episode downloads averaging above 5,000. Genres featured usually include electronica, reggae, hip hop, dance, latin, and world beats.

For the past two years, TSC has been a white label podcast with no visible tie to IODA. IODAMarketing.com is the only place you’ll see The Sound Culture linked to IODA. The producers of the podcast have always been able to select songs of their choice based solely on the Sound Culture “sound”.
