The fantastic world music label Sterns had humble beginnings as an electrical shop in 1950s London. Gradually, to cater to the expatriate African community, the shop began to stock African music until 1983, when it became Sterns African Record Centre. But selling records was only part of the Sterns mission; it was a mothership of African (and later World) music. Today they are known all over the world as a source for some of Africa’s greatest recordings. Their commitment to provide fantastic afro-centric world music was recognized in 2007 as Sterns received the WOMEX & WMCE Top Labels Award. Here at IODA, we’re proud to distribute a healthy representation of the Sterns catalog.
