Tour Date Roundup The Builders and The Butchers, Y La Bamba, Jared Mees & The Grown ChildrenOver the five year history of The Builders and the Butchers, from their beginnings playing on rainy Portland, Oregon streets for random passersby, to the early unplugged Mississippi Pizza and Valentines’ shows, to the last three years of endless touring, the band has lived and died for its connection with the audience. Whether playing bar gigs for 50 people or opening arena shows for 3000, the band strives to connect with the audience, and for the audience to connect with one another, every time they take the stage. It’s that beyond anything else that keeps the Builders going.

Featured Label: Tender Loving Empire

Monday, February 21st, 2011

tenderlovingempire 300x228 Featured Label: Tender Loving EmpireIn the last few years the freedom that independent music offers has definitely allowed for real creativity in the way labels are run. Many new record companies are opting to house themselves in a particular retail location and operate out of that location; for example, Captured Tracks and Sacred Bones both hail from shops in New York City where you can go visit the label and have a single point of contact. Without a doubt the label most creative and adherent to the retail-location philosophy is Portland, Oregon’s Tender Loving Empire. Part record label, consignment store, gallery, screenprinter, and concert production house, the media and arts collective responsible for putting out a influential wave of new indie heatseekers has generated a lot of buzz around their business.
